The history of civilization is connected with the search for energy, its new forms, and transformation methods. Over the last two hundred years, energy consumption has increased more than thirty-fold, and today modern man consumes ten times more energy than primitive man. We cannot imagine life without light, machinery, transportation, and business operations, and in every field, energy is an integral part of progress. Today energy specialists face the most critical tasks - energy safety and the development of energy management at enterprises. These tasks can only be solved thanks to the experience and knowledge of outstanding power engineers in our country, such as Andrey Khodykin, a top energy manager who has been immersed in this complex and dangerous profession for over twenty years.

It was sustainable energy production manager Andrey Khodykin who was part of the particular group of power engineers who created the unique national project to implement a high-temperature superconducting DC cable line (HTSCL). The HTSC CL project was based on FGC UES ROSSETI's developments, as well as the experience of American colleagues. An expert commission was created based on FGC UES's Science and Technology Center to design and build the line.
It's worth mentioning the U.S. energy industry separately. Today, America ranks second in the world in terms of the amount of energy system produced, and along with China, the country is far ahead in this indicator. In addition to the U.S. and China, HTS cables are actively developing in Europe, South Korea, Japan, and Russia. A number of lines have a length of 30 to 1000 meters. But the lines in the USA are the most important to study. During the development of HTSL by Russian power engineers, energy expert Andrey Khodykin was delegated to America to study local projects. The best-known and most powerful lines then were LIPA - 00m/138kV/2.4kA (57 MVA) - and Hydra 00m/1308kV/4kA. The study of this international experience formed the basis of the design documentation for the line under construction in St. Petersburg. As a result, the Russian project has become the most large-scale and unparalleled worldwide with the longest cable line. It connected two substations and increased the reliability of the city's power supply.
Andrey Khodykin, the general manager, thanks to his trip to the U.S., not only studied American experience in cable line construction but also got acquainted with the energy management system at the enterprises. There is an ISO 50001 standard for power engineers worldwide that specifies the main provisions and recommendations for creating a high-quality power system at enterprises. However, using this standard is sometimes problematic. First, it can only be used by highly specialized professionals with extensive experience in this field. And secondly, this standard must be adapted to each specific enterprise. Khodykin Andrey, upon his return to Russia, decided to write a book about using this standard in simpler words. The power engineer studied a vast amount of professional literature, articles, and publications, attended various conferences and seminars, and communicated with colleagues. As a result, a complete unique manual for professionals in the field of fuel and energy describes in detail how to improve energy efficiency and how to properly consume and redistribute energy in specific conditions at your enterprise.
All these steps significantly impact the development of our country's energy industry. According to energy expert Andrey Khodykin, not all companies use energy management systems today, but their gradual implementation will ensure companies' competitiveness, sustainable development, and profits. And the handbook will enable the competent implementation of international standards at Russian enterprises.
